Another New Years Resolution?

A new years resolution is a great idea, but they’re not exactly known for their success. I recently read that they’re broken 80% of the time, and usually by mid-February!

So this year, we’re going to do something different. We’re ditching the New Years Resolution for something easier. Something WAY more fun…

If you could pick ONE word to describe how you’d like your life to be in 2020 what would it be?

Think carefully, and take your time. This ONE word is going to be your Theme for 2020. Yep, say goodbye to an easy-to-break concrete goal and using a Theme word to craft a life you love!

Let’s do it together…

1. Pick a Theme word Instead of a New Years Resolution

My Theme word this year is “Peaceful”. There is so much noise in the world today, and I don’t want it in my home. I want people, including my family, to naturally gravitate to my home because they truly enjoy being here.

For my home to be a refuge from the chaos. I also want people to naturally gravitate to ME because I’m the kind of friend, partner, and parent that feels peaceful.

Your turn. Pick ONE word.

2. Describe what you WANT

Write down what you WANT your Theme word to mean. Be careful to describe what you want, and NOT what you don’t want.

I want to be at peace with myself. Choose peace with my choices. Find peace in my actions. Create a peaceful home.

Your turn. Write down what you WANT.

3. Train yourself with Reminders

Brainstorm ways to integrate your Theme word into all areas of your life. Try to think creatively.

For example, the word “peaceful” may not always be the first word that comes to mind when you think about personal health or finance.

But you’ll be shocked by how often you find reminders everywhere once you pick your Theme word.

My Example of How a Theme Word Helped Instead of a New Years Resolution

Sitting down at the kitchen table to make my grocery list last week, I was browsing Pinterest for recipes my family might love, when I looked up and saw this sign that I purchased recently.

I paused for a minute and realized that part of my Peaceful Theme needed to be applied to my food. I don’t know quite when I decided that I needed to recreate an amazing Pinterest dinner every night! My family is just as happy (probably happier) with simple meals like Turkey Burgers and Tacos.

So I made a quick list, my grocery trip was simple and easy, and my bill was budget-friendly. Consequently, the entire week I was rewarded with peaceful family dinners that included happy conversation and a generally stress-free atmosphere.

Your turn. Make a list of each of the important areas in your life and brainstorm ideas for how to apply your Theme word to each one.

4. Watch Your Theme Word Permeate Your Life

While I’m a big fan of intention. I believe that if you identify what you want, actively pursue it & believe it, it will happen. Furthermore, you are grateful every time you recognize it showing up in your life. You can quite literally change your life with your thoughts.

As a result, instead of yet another task like a new years resolution to deal with, we adopted a theme word. At Savvy Cali Girl, we believe in this concept so much that we, as a group, came up with a collective 2020 Theme word …“Progress”.

You’re going to see us documenting our efforts to incorporate our Theme word into every aspect of our business in 2020.
