Bruno Munro’s art installation, Field of Light at Sensorio, covers 15 acres just north of Paso Robles, CA. The massive project took over 20 people, six weeks to finish. 58,800 solar-powered fiber optic spheres were carefully arranged throughout the canyon, where they undulate with light at night.

Have you heard about Bruce Munro’s art installation – Field of Light at Sensorio in Paso Robles? If not, you’ve probably seen pictures. But did you know that Field of Light is just the beginning?  WHAT?!?

Yep. Sensorio is not just the name of the field where Munro has carefully cultivated his vision, it’s the beginning of a beautifully conceived wellness destination.

UPDATE: This post has been updated with more information, new photos and tips so you can have the best experience possible. Read the new and improved post How To Have the Best Experience at Field of Light at Sensorio.

The Idea

Sensorio founders and Central Coast locals Ken and Bobbi Hunter wanted to develop a unique experience that allows visitors to explore the convergence of technology, art, and nature. Consequently, when they saw artist Bruce Munro’s famous installation “Field of Light Uluru” in Australia, they knew they had to include a similar attraction at Sensorio.

The Exhibit

Field of Light at Sensorio is the first of several phases of projects. Munro’s creation covers 15 of the 380 acres in Paso Robles that are dedicated to Sensorio. Eventually, another 40 acres will host additional attractions. The future plans also include a hotel and conference center.

The massive project took over 20 people, six weeks to finish. 58,800 solar-powered fiber optic spheres were carefully arranged throughout the canyon, where they undulate with light and movement each night.

There are multiple entrance points to the exhibit. Thus you can watch the gradual lighting occur from above, then wander through the canyon following whichever path speaks to you. Munro intended for the experience to be immersive and meditational, in an art-as-therapy sort of way.
