Julian, California
Just an hour drive inland from the heart of San Diego lies Julian CA. This town is the quintessential day trip and is a popular destination. A throwback in time to small-town living with a thriving Main Street and quaint diners, turns into a mile-long traffic jam when it snows. If you’ve lived in a place where snow isn’t unique, this phenomenon will amuse you. If you’ve never seen snow, it will delight you.
Regardless – from apple picking to hiking (and snowball fights in-between!), a Julian CA day trip has something for everyone.

This space has a long history of businesses, beginning with a general store in 1872. After multiple owners, it has eventually become what we know now as Julian Cafe.
Fun Fact! Julian CA is the first stop for every local San Diego news crew at the first sign of snow.
Home of the famous Julian apple pie, this quaint little cafe has a number of ways to wake you up, including a glass of hot caramel apple cider! Make sure to stop here for coffee, breakfast, cider or pie.
Miner’s Diner Has Your Eats & Treats in Julian
This all-american 50’s style diner’s history is as long as its menu! Miner’s Diner offers breakfast, lunch, and a rather impressive amount of desserts.
If you’re on a Julian CA day trip and stop by for breakfast, try the Chicken Fried Steak. For lunch, grab the Miner’s Melt. Or wrap up your day trip with dessert – indulge in a classic Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae or try an Ice cream Soda from the Soda Fountain.
Whatever you choose, it’ll have the authenticity of Julian hometown cooking, guaranteed!
Call Ahead! Because Julian CA is primarily a destination town, some of the businesses are closed on Monday and Tuesday so their employees can have some time off. Call ahead to make sure the places on your itinerary will be open on the day you’re planning to visit!
