A Roadside attraction is a welcome break from an otherwise dull drive from California to Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, let’s face it, the beauty of the desert is short-lived as it is rather repetitive. But, luckily enough, there are a handful of noteworthy roadside attractions from weird to extraordinary along the route!
Eddie World Is A Sweet Stop and Unique Roadside Attraction
Well, you might as well have food options. The typical roadside hot dog from a gas station gets pretty old and at times, a little dicey. The food at Eddie’s World was perfect. We opted for a simple Caesar salad and thin-crust cheese pizza. It was simple and tasted fresh, with no surprises later. There was much more though! If I would have known it really was fresh I might have opted for the seared salmon salad with all sorts of goodies in the mix.
On top of that, the restrooms are spotless and well-lit. Even the changing station was cute. Now, for those of you riding through in a Tesla, there are multiple rows of charging stations.

A Roadside Attraction With ET In Mind
So, if you find yourself in the California desert in search of unique jerky, perhaps Allen Jerky is your speed! You can order via their website if you don’t make it out to the Mojave Desert. Turns out, their products are pretty darn good. I know the Alien is a gimmick but to each their own. And why not?

The Mirage of the Solar Array
Ivanpah Solar Power Facility Stats
- The largest-ever fully solar-powered steam turbine generator, three plants, each with two mirrors focusing solar energy on boilers
- Located at the base of Clark Mountain
- Joint public-private project
All kidding aside, the first time I saw the array, it seemed like a massive, shiny lake at first. After a good, hard look though, you quickly realize it is something entirely different.
So you may have guessed it’s a significant solar array but in terms of solar power, this installation is massive. It simply can’t be ignored, even from miles away on a busy interstate highway. I wish the images did the place justice!
Potential Future Stops
While the main attraction on the drive out of California to Las Vegas is definitely those flashing lights of the desert, there are a handful of stops we plan to include on future trips. I listed a few below with the links.
The Roadside Attraction Master List
- Just outside of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon offers lots of hiking trails, a 13-mile scenic drive available to bicyclists and vehicles, rock climbing, camping, and endless photography opportunities.
- Seven Magic Mountains will pop out from an otherwise dull, deserted landscape like a sore thumb. It’s an art installation Just off Interstate 15. While we were not able to stop this time through I provided a link with extensive information.
- The Ghost Town of Calico located within San Bernadino Regional Parks boasts a fully restored former silver mining town. In addition to the historic venue, you can book camp spots or even bunkhouses.
